Canoe Park Markkleeberg is one of the most advanced white water rafting facilities in Europe. It was planned as part of Leipzig’s bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.

Groundbreaking ceremony on 15 April 2005

Trial operation began from September 2006. Slalom canoeists from the German Canoeing Association and the Saxon Canoeing Association were first to brave the rapids.

The Canoe Park was opened on 15 April 2007.

Ever since, it has enriched the emerging tourist region south of Leipzig by offering exceptional leisure activities.

During the first season (2007), the Kanupark welcomed 9000 amateur athletes and more than 200,000 visitors. In 2013, some 22,000 guests made use of our white-water rafting activities, and more than 350,000 visitors came to the Kanupark grounds.
